Svalbard, Norway
Located in the Barents Sea between the Norwegian mainland and the North Pole, Svalbard is a large but sparsely populated archipelago, home to just 2,400 people as well as polar bears, reindeer, walruses and seals. So far north, your chances of seeing the lights are vastly improved and November to February is key Aurora season.
Kakslauttanen, Finlad
Offering a unique view of the fantastic lights is the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort. Spend a night in either a snow or glass igloo that allow visitors to enjoy incredible views of the Aurora Borealis from the warmth and comfort of their own hut.
Jukkasjarvi, Sweden
Jukkasjarvi boasts the world's first ice hotel and if that isn't enough to draw you to this remote part of Sweden then maybe the stunning Northern Lights will be. The ice hotel organises guided tours for guests to the Esrange Space Center located 30 minutes from Kiruna. There you can dine at a wilderness camp and get the chance to scan the Arctic winter sky for aurora borealis. Or why not try to get closer to the northern lights and watch them through an aeroplane window? The ice hotel arranges northern lights flights together with Spaceport Sweden in Kiruna for the ultimate northern lights experience.
Reykjavik, Iceland
Reykjavik is one of the most affordable and accessible place to see the Northern Lights and is a popular spot for visitors to view the spectacular natural phenomenon which happens during the winter months.
Northern Canada
